160th anniversary of the Crystal Palace, London, housing the first World’s Fair of 1851

  The Crystal Palace was erected in London to house the Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations of 1851.

It represents one of the chief examples of the then pioneering cast-iron and glass architecture. It was relocated after its triumphant launch with such Exhibition, and it housed several cultural, public and sporting events until 1936, when it was destroyed by fire.
