Art Heist
 
  Frenetic theft in Paris several days ago: five masterpieces were stolen from the Museum of Modern Art, Paris. But it isn’t the first time that thieves have laid their hands on works by great artists: here are some other famous robberies of the last the 100 years!  
  The “Mona Lisa”, the most famous of Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings, was snatched from the Louvre in August 1911.

In 1969, the Nativity by Caravaggio disappeared from the Oratorio di S. Lorenzo in Palermo.

  February 1975 "The Mute Woman" by Raphael & two works by Piero della Francesca were taken from Urbino.  
  In 1983, a plunder from the Museum of Fine Arts Budapest: 7 masterpieces by Italian Renaissance Masters were targeted, amongst which the "Esterhazy Madonna" by Raphael.

  In 1997 the canvas “Portrait of a Young Woman” by Gustav Klimt was pinched from the Galleria d'Arte Moderna Ricci Oddi, Piacenza.  
  Three important pieces went from the Galleria nazionale d'Arte moderna in Rome: "The Peasant" & "The Woman of Arles" by Van Gogh & "Jordan’s Hut” by Cézanne.

  Finally in Oslo, 2004, Munch’s most famous creation, “The Scream” was targeted. It was recovered a little over 2 years later.
