Leo Tolstoy (or Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy, 1828-1910) was one of the greatest novelists of all time, an essayist, thinker, social reformer and a fervent Christian anarchist.
Born in 1828, Tolstoy witnessed the abolition of slavery, the effects of the industrial revolution, the introduction of trains and cars and all that changed Russian society during those tumultuous years.

Amongst his masterpieces, Anna Karenina and War and Peace. His work also includes short stories, writings on war and essays on several topics including religion, the lower class and inequality.

The 100th anniversary of Tolstoy’s death will be celebrated this year in November.
